   IMPORTANCE OF INTERNET AND WORLD WIDE WEB

                    In this topic, I learnt about history of internet, the usage of internet and internet services. Let me share what Internet is all about first. Internet is the largest network in the world that connects peopl/organizatio all over the world.

                  First and foremost, Internt was created in 1969, named ARPANET. But starting from 1980, the name was changed into INTERNET unit nowadays. By using the internet, we can find any information we need and we can commuicate with people all over the word. Then how can we apply these services on the internet? Here are the services of internet that we are using nowadays. 

1. Communication(Electronic mail)
2. World Wide Web
3. Protocol
4. Chatroom
5. VOIP
6. News Groups(Forum)

My understandings of these services are:

1. Communication

                For communication service, Electronic mail(E mail) is the most people used internet service nowadays. Email is one of the online communication mediums that can exchange the messages from one author to one or more receipents. It is used to compose, receive, forward, store, print and delete mails. Examples of Electronic mail are Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail.

2. World Wide Web(www)
                Website is a collection of linked web pages that has a common theme. It contains hypertext link, highlighted keywords and images that lead to related information.

Do you know how to access the web? Here are the way of accessing a web. At first, you need a connection or internet access. Then use the browser to access the web page. Brower is a specail software that used to view the webpage. Examples of browser are Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and so on.

Hypertext Markup Language(HTML)
                   It is a Markup Language for displaying web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.
3. Protocol
            It is the set of software that the computers use to move files from one computer to

another on the internet. For e.g, Hypertext Tranfer Protocol (HTTP).

4. Chat Rooms
            It is a channel on internet that allow people to chat with each other. By using this, we can chat with our friends online. For e.g, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, Masternewmedia.

5. VOIP(Voice Over Internet Protocol)
                 It is used to make phone calls. E.g, Skype.

6. News Group
               It is electronic bulletin board to conduct discussion about specific subject. It includes newsreader.

             Learning history of internet, usage of internet and internet services made me realize what the network is all about, how to acces the internet, how to creat web page and other applicatios of internet especially internet services. I realized various internet services and their usages in our daily life. This learing outcome made me to be professional in web developing and network engineering.
