                    WEB APPLICATIONS

This topic was all about types of webs, generations of web, types of PL, web based collaboration tools. First and foremost, I realized internet and web are different. As our lecturer explained, internet is a network that can connect people/organization all over the word while web is a service of internet and it is a collection of HTML pages that can give all the information about an organization. After that she explained about the types of web. Here are the types of web.
  • Static web- which the users can view the information but they cant' edit the content. For e.g, web 1.0.
  • Dynamic web page- which the users can view and edit the content. For e.g, web 2.0 and web 3.0.

I had to learn about the generations of web which is the most interesting learning outcome for me in this course. So, let me share what these are.
Generations of web

  • 1st generation: Web 1.0- which do not allow visitors to contribute. Only the web admins can edit the content. The web is in HTML coding. Examples of web 1.0 are informational websites, educational websites, company websites.

  • 2nd generation: Web 2.0- it is the popular term for advanced internet technology and applications. It is the combination of technology allowing users to interact with information.

  • 3rd generation: Web 3.0: It is about semantic web based on inetlligent web applications  using machine-based learning and reasoning and intelligent applications. E.g, Decision Support System, Expert System Portal.
There are 2 categories of web 2.0 sites:
  1. Online Social Networking
  2. Mashups and Aggreagtor
1. Online Social Networking- it involves websites known as social sites. It is social networking  website function like an online community of internet users. E.g, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.

2. Aggregator- it is a website that take different content from a number of other websites and mix them together to create a new kind of content.

There are 2 types of PL.
  1. Low-level language- it is a machine dependent language divide into machine language and assembly language which are called 1st generation PL and 2nd generation PL.
  2. High-level language- 3rd generation PL, 4th generation PL and 5th generation PL.
Web based collaboration tools
  • Google mail
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Docs
  • Google Sites
Since this learning outcome is all about websites and webpages, I got precious knowledge of web which I have never learnt before. After I have learnt this topic, I could create my own webstie and the applications of it; how to edit web, how to apply the categories of websites and so on. Learning web generations made me to differentiate what kind of websites are related to which generation and these generations are from which type. I really like this topci because it taught me the way of improving web applications and the knowledge of networking.
