DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DAT AND INFORMATION, ECONOMICS OF IT, INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

                                      

                 It was the first basic knowledge of Information Technology for me since I had never touched IT before. The topic was all about evolution of computers, data and information, the economics of information and IT, information management and problems of information management. Let me share my understanding of these.

Evolution of computers

1. 1st generation(1940-1950): Vacuum Tube- it is the first electronic computer that is called ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computers) which is built up of 18000 vacuum tubes. We used it in armies to calculate and design hydrogen bomb. Another 1st generation of computer is that UNIVAC( Universal Automatic Computer) which was the first commercial computer. 
   
2. 2nd generation(1950-1964): Transistors
   
   
   
3. 3rd generation(1964-1974): Integrated Circuits
   
                                                               
4. 4th generation(1974-present): VLSI/ULSI- Very Large Scale Integration/ Ultra Large Scale Integration
   
5. 5th generation( now and future): Artificial Intelligence
    

Data and Information

             Data is raw facts and information is the data that is organized and meaningful.

The economics of information and IT

              The technology that can raise the rate of success or profit of an organization in business field.

Information Management

               Information mangement is the collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences.

Here are the ways to solve the problems of information management.

• Web Content Management(WCM)
• Document Management(DM)
• Records Management(RM)
• Learning Management System(LMS)
• Enterprise Content Management System(ECMS)

                       These are the summary of learning outcome-1. After I've learnt these topics in my first class, I realized the main basic concepts of IT which are data, information and information management. I came to know what the data and data integrity are all about. As for my understanding, data integrity is the accuracy and consistency of stored data, indicated by an absence of any alternation in data between two updates of a data record. Learing about data integrity gave me more knowledge of data such as the stages included in data integrity which are GIGO(Garbage In and Garbage Out). In addtion, I came to know more about information as well which are the roles of information, the quality of valuable information and two basic elements of information that are Reach and Richness.

• Reach- means the number of people, participate, exchanig, sharing the information.
• Richness- quality/quantity of information shared in transaction. It has 3 components:

1. bandwidth (the amount of information that can be moved from sender to receiver in a given time)
2. customization (whether the information is tailored for an audience of a particular size)
3. interactivity (the extent to which the involved parties can converse).

                       I did one class activity regarding the economics of information and IT topic. It was group activity. It was all about economic of IT. Our lecturer asked us to choose one usage of economic IT and present the functions of it. Another class activity was the presentation about Information Management. It was also the group activity. I did a 10 minutes presentation about Problems of Information Manangement with 5 of my groupmates. Overall, I enjoyed this Learning Outcome1 because I got precious knowledge of basic IT  and it helped me to improve my understandings of the concept of  IT. I hope these will fullfill my goal which is to be a computer technician.
